Nietzsche On the Individual and the Tribe

“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.”

—  Friedrich Nietzsche

One thought on “Nietzsche On the Individual and the Tribe

  1. “privilege of self-ownership”

This seems to be a contradiction. Perhaps he meant to say “right of self-ownership” or alternately, “privilege of self-rentership.”

Or maybe it’s just my absolutist side peeking through the mist.
