Staff Sergeant Dale Beatty

Staff Sergeant Dale Beatty suffered wounds in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom II and both of his legs were amputated below the knee. He spends his time at the Walter Reed Army medical center with a crafts kit sent by strangers to take his mind off the pain.

Sergeant Beatty looks all of 19 in his picture. It’s nice he gets a crafts kit and a Christmas card. And of course, he’ll have his Purple Heart to remind him he did his duty honorably as he saw it. We judge heroism by honorable intentions and acts of courage.

Staff Sergeant Dale Beatty would probably call his civilian commanders honorable and courageous too, with the eyes of innocence. And with the trust of the young for the old.

To mislead the innocence and trust of the sons of your own country — what could be a better definition of treachery?

  2. Well just so you know, I hope this blog is still active… I was 26 at the time of my injury, and not as doe eyed as you might be led to believe by that photo. I did receive the purple heart, and now have a little less faith in my civilian commanders than I did then..I am a true American and I believe we are headed down the road to socialism… Thanks for the compliment though..

  3. Hello Dale

My name is Jonathon, I am a disabled man of 43, I live in Northern Kentucky. I have Cerebral Palsy. It has always been a dream of mine to one day have a “Completely Accessible” Ranch Home.. a totally accessible bathroom, kitchen, hallways, bedrooms & living rooms, to be able to reach my cabinets, to be able to roll-in to my shower and take a bath on my own, to be able to have flooring that I can easily roll my wheelchair across, my hope is to be able to have a home that could make my daily life easier and safer.

I saw your story on Lou Dobbs, tonight 9-6-2009. You, your journey, your story touch my heart, I could so relate to the things/comments you were saying.. I know I am not a veteran and I on SSDI or Disability, but I have spent the better of my adult life trying to help others in need, but I don’t how to raise the money or even build a home like I need, could you show me, advise me, to you know how I could raise the moneies to build such a home, would people donate their time, often times apts and homes were access, I just had to adapt and make do, but its getting harder to do that

and I don’t even know if its possible to do on my income of a little over $900.00. Would you mind, contacting me jonathontrimble@yahoo.com maybe you could guide me in the right directions.

    Thanks so much
    Jonathon
