My Comment:

Wow. I know there are a few people who read this blog ‘cos I know stuff I say gets picked up by all sorts of people (without attribution often – naughty, naughty). But since there are all these ideological purity tests that make them forget (ahem) to give me back any link-love, I’m a wee bit surprised I made this list.

Actually, I didn’t even know this list existed.

Maybe that’s the secret.

Ignorance.

Until the end of last year I was nearly always holed up in an Internet cafe in some foreign country, trying to figure out Google in Arabic, German, French, or Spanish…..or living out of a suitcase, tripping over statues of the Nataraja….while trying to decipher/negotiate hideous legal clauses without bankrupting myself on some 400 buck-an-hour suit.Ergo, this blog was dead…or rather, comatose.

On top of that, I am a never-wazzer on all technical matters.

On the other hand, freed from any ability to measure what works or doesn’t, what to say or not, and whom to please or not, I finally got around to just saying what I think.

That’s turning out not to be so bad.

Moral of the story: Flying  blind sometimes help.

Update:  Greg at The Holy Cause (also on this list) turns out to be my guardian angel.  A big thanks and blogroll link coming up.

And Humble Libertarian gets a link too

  1. Congrats! That’s great.
I know exactly what feels like to be quoted with no attribution. It happens all the time and it’s stealing, but nobody cares. If someone steals an object from you, you can go to the police, but if they rob your words or ideas they can always say it was a coincidence.
The Counter you can reset with the same or a new account, anytime. But you’re right in not using it with all that harrassement you’ve been through, cause that would upset you a lot. I know what I’m talking about here as well. I had a somewhat similar experience.

  2. Do tell, Dionysia.
I love stories of the villainous blogosphere.
Because it’s simply amazing what anonymity and the all-powerful SEND button will let human beings do.

Greg: I’ve noted my appreciation and of course, we exchanged links before…

  3. My motto is discretion, so all I’ll tell is that it was a case of sexual harassement. There are millions everyday, I suppose. It’s so hard to be a free woman with brains…

  4. Greg, my guardian angel, I have linked thee aright, at last.
With apologies for my early morning incompetence.
And I note, in passing, that thou hast vastly improved the appearance of thy blog theme as well.
    I like it.

  5. Dinonysia –
Brains have nothing to do with it, although it’s obvious you have plenty.
Females without a visible male attachment invite attention. Sometimes this works to their advantage. Sometimes not.
Wearing a paper bag over your head is one solution. But some of my younger friends say they have tried this and only got more attention.
Men have a hunting instinct in them.
And it’s not the catch that interests them but the chase.
    Or so I am told.

  6. I am suspicious of lists like these. By what criteria is 67 different from 66, or 50 for that matter. It’s similar to college football team rankings. Thankfully there is no Bowl Championship Series in the libertarian world to determine who gets to play.

  7. I don’t take it seriously.
But blogging sometimes feels like shouting into the Grand Canyon.
So, occasionally, when you hear an echo in the pine trees, that’s not entirely from your own voice, you get a second wind. Not to be taken seriously, but it encourages people, and most importantly, you get to see a lot of interesting looking blogs you never knew were out there. They’ll be taking the place of a few old stalwarts.

  8. Lila, hi again:
Thanks for the compliment. I meant that with brains we suffer. An idiot bimbo doesn’t even notice what’s going on. Good for her.
You’re so very true about the rest, which pisses me off beyond measure, because that’s chauvinistic and coward and it’s male standard behaviour. That’s not hunting, that’s opportunism. A true hunter chooses his prey, attached or not attatched to other man, and goes after her. It’s fantasy heroics maybe, but that’s how a man proves I exist and I’m not simple the one who was available at the time. As for the chase, if it leads to get the prey as quick as in a real hunt, lovely. But if it’s the game for the gamesake, f*** off! And then there are the fishermen, those who use baite to lure the fish to them and do nothing. That’s even more cowardly and oportunistic than the others. Sorry, I’m preaching. I’m a Romantic fool and should know better…

  9. I’m sure the hunting occurs. However men are also attracted to females who have principles and achievements they respect and admire. Sometimes chance, location and social circles render such acquaintances commonplace, othertimes less so.

How much easier life would be for me if I knew what I know, but had a female body and an attractive face. More complex perhaps. I do like the freedom that being male provides; the ability to go where and when I want and not worry about my personal safety. An added benefit is that those who are drawn to me professionally aren’t doing it because they want to sleep with me. *laughs*

  10. Seeing things as power issues prevents analysis of them from turning into gender war.
“Men” are also our fathers, brothers, husbands and sons.
Although India has more than its fair share of “eve-teasing” as sexual harassment is called
I like the vernacular addresses – women are “sisters” (thangachi for little sister and akka for an older) or mother (amma). And anna or bhai (brother), thambi (little brother) and appa (father)
I’m not sure it reduces sexual harassment by any means, but it does remind you of family rather than predation.

  11. JC

First you imply you have more knowledge than women; secondly that it would be easier if you had the flesh of a woman, thus, rendering 1 and 2 together, women are pieces of pretty flesh with no brains. Thirdly, you state that men have no personnal safety problems and thus also stating that women must be very careful with their safety, maybe getting a big dog or a gun will do it. There again we have it, Lila, the old pattern of the “woman alone is a danger for herself and others”, needs a daddy, surely, or a bodyguard. Or a life insurance. That’s my case.

  12. Dion, I don’t know how it’s possible to so completely misconstrue my comments; it’s gotta be the “mars, venus” thing.

I think your response is my epitaph, lol
