By being themselves. By being true to themselves. By cultivating themselves and their abilities.
And by being bigger people than the snide folkĀ on American Idol, who were shocked by just how well one frumpy, middle-aged woman without any Hollywood glam could sing.
I’d rather listen to Susan Boyle anyday than some of the no-talents whom nobody would listen to without the hype, glitz, skin, and sensation accompanying them.
Individualism has many faces. Ayn Rand’s isn’t the only one… or the truest one.Don’t let misinterpreted words or misunderstood theories scare you away from the one approach that has a chance of succeeding in the political climate today.
Hmmm. One non attractive person getting coverage when you consider the millions of images of attractive people broadcast is nothing to get exicted about. That its remarkable is what is worrisome. Could it be that finally appearance, age and background recede while ability is in the forefront. I suspect its just enought to give legitimacy to the whole enterprise. Did’nt you know the U.S. is benign becuase in accordance to the dream of MLK we now have a black president? Its all good a woman ran for president……Lets not get to excited about symbols and even the occassional person getting an even break……Its just enough to give the thing an air of respectability, thats all.

To be ourselves is the only meaning of life.
Well – non-attractive people get coverage all day long…just turn on TV. Nor do I care about symbolism as employed by politicians and PR flaks.
But American Idol’s Simon getting his come uppance is worthy of note. His face alone was classic.
It was a completely unrehearsed moment, which is why I thought it was notable. Plus, her attitude was so down to earth and good natured.
And I love it when small-town folk catch the city slickers off guard.
Not that I think small towns are repositories of all the virtues. I don’t.
To be ourselves is the only meaning in life
That clip brought a tear to my eye, thanks for posting.
Can you confirm your e-mail. is it:
I wonder what some popular yet mediocre talents would need to do to capture as much attention as Ms. Boyle – how many highly publicised self promoting trips to Africa to adopt little children, how many spectacular romances, or provocative outfits would it make. Here is to the true talent which touches so deeply because it is genuine, selfless and truly magnificent!
