US Military to Coordinate Haiti Earthquake Relief

Update: Thanks to reader Jeff for this video of an outfit helping with Haiti’s water needs. It might be a better place for donations than any government relief effort.

Original Post:

I haven’t commented on the Haiti earthquake, mainly because I haven’t been on top of the details. Besides, there’s so much coverage in the MSM about it. My beat here remains the untold story.

But one angle does trouble me. The intervention of the military. I can’t bring myself to say they shouldn’t be involved, which would be the principled thing to say, but it bothers me a lot:

“Sometimes it takes a catastrophe to demonstrate just how much more the U.S. military is able to do than simply kill the enemy. Only the U.S. can initially control flights into and out of the Port-au-Prince airport from aboard a nearby Coast Guard cutter, while waiting for an Air Force special-ops team to set up shop at the airport and step up operations to 24/7. Only U.S. warships have the capability to generate up to 400,000 gallons of fresh water a day from seawater. Only the U.S. military can send a spy drone from California to fly lazy orbits over Port-au-Prince snapping close to 1,000 pictures a day, which when compared with similar ones shot last summer, create a map of the hardest hit areas that can be instantly relayed to those working on the ground.

Only the U.S. military has enough aluminum matting to boost the runway capacity of Port-au-Prince airport. Only the U.S. military has the surveillance capability to quickly assess additional Haitian airfields and seaports for use in rescue relief operations. Only the U.S. military has the wide variety of vessels and aircraft to utilize those fields and ports, including air-cushioned vehicles capable of ferrying 60 tons of supplies from ship to shore at 40 knots. (See TIME’s exclusive photos of the aftermath of the earthquake.)

But the limits of U.S. capability can also be seen: The Pentagon diverted an unmanned Global Hawk drone bound for Afghanistan to Haiti instead, to photograph the damage there. “We were about to send that Global Hawk over to the war” until the earthquake, explained Air Force Col. Bradley Butz. “It will stay here until the President says it’s time to send it forward.”

While the drone had no comment about its sudden change of mission, some of those bound for Haiti welcomed the new assignment after more than eight years of war. “Marines are definitely warriors first,” Captain Clark Carpenter said Friday as his unit prepared to ship out to Haiti from North Carolina. “But we are equally as compassionate when we need to be, and this is a role that we like to show – a compassionate warrior that can reach out that helping hand to those who need it.”

Read more at Time for the corporate media’s view of the intervention.

And read Michel Chossudovsky, for the deep structure of the intervention, recent US interventions in Haiti, and the extent and implications of a US military presence there (he argues that it’s to monitor and intervene in Cuba and Venezuela).

I recall the tsunami relief effort in 2004 and the intrusion of military vessels and spy satellites into Indonesia and other regions in Asia. Humanitarian interventions are a prime locus for state meddling, because most people will feel reluctant to second-guess what’s happening. They don’t want come off as hard-hearted carping critics, with nothing positive to offer.

A life saved in Haiti is good PR for a life or two killed elsewhere. If such calculations are mathematical (and with the state they always have to be), then we are indeed better off with the US military, many would say.

Meanwhile, JP Morgan, I see, is donating a million to the relief effort.

And Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Bank of America are giving a million apiece too. That will be millions taken from the tax-payer and rival banks long defunct. But from wherever it comes,  lives will be saved, right?

Thus do they wash their hands clean of guilt.

Who knows.

Maybe Lloyd Blankfein IS doing god’s work.

Or, at least, he’s Dean of the Jeffrey Levitt School of Philanthropy.

[For those with short memories, Levitt stole some $15 million in the 1980s, in the biggest white-collar crime in Maryland history, and almost single-handedly brought down the savings and loan business in the state.  One reason he was able to get away with his thieving for so long was that he was careful to make judicious and well-publicized charitable donations].

  1. I hate to be a cynic but I am actually going back and reading about Tesla and HAARP – weather wars…

It just strikes me as odd that there should be so many “worst ever” natural disasters in the last few years…that always seem to allow the military a nice entry point into areas where it wants to increase its presence.

But there aren’t enough hours in the day to study every aspect of the ongoing disaster that is the state.
    It’s not just defense.
It’s the whole enterprise of using OPM without restriction
    It’s a cancer on humanity

  2. Lila,

Why should the banks need to cover their feelings of guilt? They are doing God’s work which is cleansing to the conscience. They have saved the economy through government bailouts and clever financial tricks. The millions of dollars of donations are to pave the way for them to finance the rebuilding of Haiti. They have a generous foot in the door for the next government that will loot whatever resources could possibly remain there.

This earthquake could not have been planned to have taken place at a better time. NOW the US and other military organizations around the world can show their feminine side and reach out and rebuild instead of destroying. What a lucky PR break for the US military. I can assure you at every level the leaders and the lapdogs are looking for ways to spin the earthquake and aid into a powerful story of how they are builders and helpers to those less fortunate.
The media also could not be happier. They finally have something that they can use to sell advertising and even salvage their own discredited reputations. Wow, powerful images. Heartfelt commentary! Tough in-the-field reporting; Struggling to get the news while drinking and eating the ONLY safe water and food in Haiti: Powerful tools for manipulation and cleansing ones reputation to the masses.

Meanwhile the destruction of Iraq, the destruction of Afghanistan, the destruction of Lebanon, the destruction of Palestinians, the future destruction of Iran march forward quietly in the background.

A win-win situation for the Media, Military, Wall Street and everyone else who needs to cover the death and destruction they have pushed on the world.

For every million dollars a banker gives a third world country, they suck out a billion.

For every soldier sent to meddle in the affairs or emergencies of other countries, 100 are sent to kill, maim and destroy.

For every news report published to stir the hearts of the masses into compassion and guilt over the fate of those in natural disasters, 10 reports should have been produced explaining to the masses how they were looted, lied too, and manipulated into wars, poverty, and loss of goodwill around the world.

  4. Levitt sound a lot like Michael Milken who has been putting his name up on countless buildings/foundations etc. since he got out of prison. Too bad it seems to fool most people.

  5. Well – there are a lot of people like this..he was just a kind of harbinger.
And I don’t want to turn it into a tale of morality either.
I think this sort of thing arises because

    1. We reckon the good life (in both senses of the word ‘good,’ as the wealthy life…
i.e. – wealth is the only signifier of achievement and of goodness – getting and giving money. Now, of course, both those things are wonderful, but they’re so only in the context of a good life.
Unbalanced accumulation of wealth betrays misplaced priorities, and giving it away can also cause harm…

    2. And we reckon in terms of money and numbers, because that kind of quantifying, which is our crude way of being what we consider scientific, or at least empirical, arises from our not having any clear perception of the value of a man or of a life outside its use to the state.
At least, that’s my thinking on this..

I wrote something similar in 2005 – Katrina and the Fishy Logic of the state, which goes into it in a bit more detail than that.

I don’t mean to simplify all of it and say that the enlightenment was a bad thing or something foolish like that.

No, the enlightenment was a good thing, but we tend to swing from pole to pole and we can turn a good thing into a slogan.

The rational and the intuitive have to come together in a more real way and that cannot be through mass thinking or mass action, which is the field of the state.

I think left-anarchists and right-anarchists, as well as some moderate socialists and free marketers on both sides, do sense that in their different ways..

So Levitt, Milken — I don’t want to exaggerate the importance of these people. They exist because when there’s OPM to be had, the chances are that shrewd operators will get to it.

Wall Street corrupts and controls government for sure. That’s at the level of perception. But at the level of fundamental reality, it’s the other way round. Wall Street is a creation of government, of the state..

And a Milken or Dimon or any other financier is simply the natural outcome of that. (And I don’t want to seem to be picking on Milken, even if he is a Sith Lord. Sith Lords are what you get when you place your “faith” in the state, in logic without wisdom, the machinery of reason, or the machinery of the mass, of “mankind” or “people” – rather than simply in the wisdom of the singular and particular individual….with his singular and particular perceptions..

Are you sure you want to know about HAARP?
You probably shouldn’t write about it, even if,… its just information… no theory or accusations anywhere, you will still most likely be labled something like, loudmouth paranoid conspiracy theory idiots… modern tabbo subjects? Forget using reason and facts, facts like: with the right vibrations and frequency, a troop of soldiers marching across a bridge can cause the bridge to collapse due simply to the vibrations much like a glass shatters from a very high pitched sound.

As if you didn’t already know this info (I’ll bet you know more than I about this subject by now) here is a condensed and filtered conversation(s) with interesting links for a begining primer on HAARP, I hope it’s not too long and proves useful:

Haiti will be a disaster of unimaginable proportions. I can’t even talk about it at the moment except to say that I also believe it was deliberately caused by the elite’s tectonic weapons.

    at 1:43 pm

I think this is evidence for the Haiti earthquake being manmade and intentional.

The US is sending all kinds of troops (including marines) into Haiti. They’ve taken over the airport, and are directing all relief work, which should NOT be done by foreign troops! The US military, along with the UN is taking over control of Haiti.

    Here is a link:

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=17000

Within that article is another link, leading to a video that confirms that the USA is responsible for the 2004 Coup d’Etat and the training of the killer police force prior to that.

Here is the link to that video (it is one and a half hours long, but well worth watching. It shows what the UN ‘peacekeepers’ are really about!
    http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=16998

The UN troops were arresting scores of people loyal to the ousted president’s party in 2004 and 2005, and were turning a blind eye to police shooting at and killing peaceful protesters. They turned parts of towns into ghettos, surrounding them with tanks.

The UN has been there ever since, making sure that NO DEMOCRACY can be established. And now, after this terrible earthquake, the US is deploying, on a per capita basis, more troops to Haiti than they have in Afghanistan.

Why? It is obvious that they are taking total control of Haiti, and that was the plan all along. They just needed a ‘good reason’, like a major catastrophe.

    at 6:46 pm

the technology for creating earthquakes exists both in the USA and in the eastblock. It is said that Russia has the better technology and could wipe out any country they want.

Bat Catastrophe Spreading – Bats May Never Recover

None of the “experts” can figure out what is causing the massive die off in the bees and the birds. Many other insects have been decimated as well, as have the trees. Of course, the insect and tree deaths go unreported. And the MSM is keeping its lying lips zipped up tight about the bees, birds, and bats as well. [And moths?]

This unprecedented die off has occurred in a very short time frame. AFTER the elites started their massive and covert chemtrail operation.

And as far as the Haiti quake goes and your contention that HAARP or other scalar weaponry can’t cause quakes this large….think again, please. Way back in the 1890s Tesla took a small resonant vibrator ( the size of a small clock ) and placed it on a steel beam. Once the frequency of the vibrator matched the frequency of the beam , people thought there was an earthquake. Tesla destroyed the vibrator with a sledge hammer before more damage could be done. Tesla claimed that given the right frequency he could split the earth in two.

Tesla’s methods were still quite crude. But how far do you think the military applications of Tesla technology have advanced in over 100 years ? Why the elites have even allowed us little people a small measure of technology compared to Tesla’s times. Most of us no longer use horse and buggy and we have inventions like the internet.

An earthquake the size of Haitis ? Piece of cake, I’m sure.

Follow the money. Who profits ? Clinton already had his Haiti foundation established the first day ( Bush junior just joined him ). Don’t forget the Clinton/papa Bush joint foundations for the tsunami, Katrina, and a third foundation for misc hurricanes . There’s more I could explain but I gotta go for now.

The images below are a time-frequency spectrogram which show the frequency content of signals recorded by the H.A.A.R.P. Induction Magnetometer. This instrument, provided by the University of Tokyo, measures temporal variations in the geomagnetic field in the ULF (ultra-low frequency) range of 0-5 Hz. The spectrogram images are produced by computing the PSD (power spectral density) of successive 102.4-second segments of timeseries data, and plotting these spectra as color/intensity slices along a 24-hour scale. Haiti quake- January 12th. Watch the dates as they change on the bottom of the video and watch what HAARP is doing just before and during the quake.

Note the ” die-off” AFTER the quake on the 13th and 14th.

2009 was abnormally LOW for quake activity.

Most quakes originate because of cosmological reasons.

SOME quakes are created through the use of tectonic weaponry. You need discernment to figure out which is which.

Haiti, for a huge number of reasons, has all the hallmarks of being such a HAARPquake.

I can understand how the Haiti quake benefits the NWO. Can you ?

    at 8:34 pm

…I am surprized how many people are agreeing, that this huge quake was a HAARP job. No Tsunami? A bank w. no checks and balances, under US ownership, duh…. why are C and B asking us for money? C A S H as one of them said? What’s going on here?

An article that tries pulling it all together, and it’s “almost” mainstream media:

    Haiti, HAARP, and conspiracy theorists

“The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time.”

I looked again at all the aerial pictures I could find of the disaster area in Haiti. And it is VERY weird that not ONE road has buckled, or has a large crack/gap in it, or anything like it. All the roads are fine, other than some of them covered in debris from collapsed houses. And the airport is unscathed, too. How very, very odd.

Whenever there is a disaster anywhere, I look at pictures (I am a very visual person) to be able to see exactly what happened. and I’ve never seen anything like it. With EVERY other earthquake you’d see cracks in the earth, buckled land/roads etc.

In Haiti all you see is collapsed/pancaked houses/buildings. NO buckling whatsoever. That was NOT a normal earthquake!

Other countries are complaining that the US has taken over the airport and even turns back airplanes with field hospitals and aid! How dare they!

It is quite obvious that the USA has sent an OCCUPATION force. They’ve taken over Haiti. And the UN is sending more troops, too. It is all very suspicious.

    at 9:40 am

One thing somebody says in the comments after the blog post [on boingboing.net] that it wasn’t really an earthquake at all (as in, from below), but rather a huge blast of energy from ABOVE, which made it FEEL like the earth was shaking, but really just collapsed everything it was meant to collapse.

You look at the devastated areas. Every single house is collapsed. In regular earthquakes, many houses collapse, but some are left standing. They don’t ALL collapse.

I found it strange that a quake of Haiti’s magnitude didn’t buckle the roads….or the airport runways. The Seattle quake a few years back ( 6.8 ) buckled the Boeing Field runways and it was out of commission for weeks while under repair…

Other considerations – US just finished building an enormously expensive embassy building in Haiti in 2008 ( 5th largest in the world). What’s up with that? In a poor country like Haiti ?

Ahh. But is Haiti really poor? Or does it have oil, gas, and precious metals… a strategic military position, deep water ports ? Take a look.

Here is a URL to an interesting article. Apparently, there is oil offshore from Haiti, that the USA wants.

    at 2:10 am

…But if you think about it logically, what better way to take control of a region? Devastate the area with a natural disaster (i.e. an earthquake you cuased), then go in and occupy (under the guise of “relief aid”), and rebuild (convert the nation into a sphere of influence in your favor). Nobody ever knows a thing. No bullets needed. The stealth bomber was in use almost a decade before we knew about it. People thought it was a UFO…
Just something to think about. Obviously there is no evidence that the tragedy in Haiti was caused in such a manner, but it is noteworthy that our troops were sent in immediately afterward, as if we were just waiting for the signal. Other nations are surprised by our militarization there; it is not needed for peacekeeping, as looting has only been isolated in a couple cases and quickly neutralized. So why is our military there, whereas other nations merely sent food and supplies? It’s as if a larger operation is taking place.

    HAARP is not classified:

If all this is true, as someone said, “Sure would be messed up! About as strange as flying planes into ones own buildings and then blaming someone else.”

  8. Hi Clark –

    No – I don’t think it’s conspiracy theory..

At this point, it’s responsible to question as much as possible..

I certainly thought the 2004 tsunami was weird..and the response was a cock up too.

Look, if there’s a group of oligarchs in control in the west, then one of the first things it’s going to want to do it to keep various populations under its thumb, by whatever means.

    Tesla..he’s in vogue too.

  9. If you wanted to better visualize HAARP in action this video shows what many think was a test run of HAARP over a body of water, as well as “after effects” from producing an earthquake on land – rainbow sections:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NhgJNsdxmY

Kind of like a giant taser gun with GPS only tornado and earthquake producing? A.k.a. the finger of God? Pushing things around, manipulating all manner of things…

    Who knows?

  10. Yeah, you’ve gotta watch out for the American military, with their trillion dollar bailouts and billion dollar bonuses stolen from the taxpayers.

If only our elected officials were as intelligent and honor bound as our Generals.

    To quote Colin Powell:
[F]ar from being the Great Satan, I would say that we are the Great Protector. We have sent men and women from the armed forces of the United States to other parts of the world throughout the past century to put down oppression. We defeated Fascism. We defeated Communism. We saved Europe in World War I and World War II. We were willing to do it, glad to do it. We went to Korea. We went to Vietnam. All in the interest of preserving the rights of people.
And when all those conflicts were over, what did we do? Did we stay and conquer? Did we say, “Okay, we defeated Germany. Now Germany belongs to us? We defeated Japan, so Japan belongs to us”? No. What did we do? We built them up. We gave them democratic systems which they have embraced totally to their soul. And did we ask for any land? No, the only land we ever asked for was enough land to bury our dead. And that is the kind of nation we are.

  11. The military has plenty of boondoggles.
Did you know how much was ripped off the taxpayer by bid-rigging and corruption in Iraq?
Neither the government nor the military should be aiding.

There are more than enough private charities to do it.
Let the military do what it’s supposed to do.
Defend the country when someone attacks it.

  12. I think I would disagree with you on some of that.
    There are no good wars.
The Allies defeated Hitler at the expense of strengthening Stalin.
And the US defeated the USSR and in the process became a lot like it…
